11/16/2023 0 Comments How to build a fallout / storm shelter![]() Will this process provide adequate shielding from fallout? I will be downwind of the potential target. ![]() I live 30 miles from what I would consider to be a 1st strike target. Alternatively, Stack cinderblocks with the voids filled with Quickcrete and drape 3 mil plastic over the inside surface. 8" thick filled with dirt, floor to ceiling, completely covering the opening. At the bottom of the stairwell, into the opening of the shelter room, build a moveable (heavy) wall approx. Put a hepa filter at the opening of each pipe on the interior roof of the shelter room. Extend vent pipes, turn PVC 180s away from the direction of incoming fallout. Add 2' of dirt to the top of the shelter I am trying to convert this thing into a fallout shelter, on limited funds. There are 2 vent pipes on the roof, 3" in diameter with PVC 180" elbows turned toward the ground with screen covering the openings. The roof and about 8" of the walls are above grade. The roof of the shelter is exposed reinforced concrete, approx. It has a stairwell the goes down to the shelter room at approx 45 degrees. ![]() I have a storm shelter in my back yard, 10wx10Lx8 tall.
